Hiya!

Oki doki, here's a sample page from the latest Love Hurts episode, the werewolf one…

I'm now working one the next one, a super hero-story. It will be the last Love Hurts-episode(!). For a while anyway. I'll do a special prologue-comic for the compilation book, but as a proper Love Hurts-episode number twenty is the last one. I might do one from time to time, but not monthly.

The thing is I'm starting a new project. My graphic novel, that I've mentioned here before. It's a romantic horror story as well, about a bullied school girl, her imaginary friend, and their revenge. It's gonna be awesome! Hopefully it'll be published monthly in a new magazine that's coming out next year I think.

I just came home from the Gothenburg Book Fair, Bokmässan. I hung out with fellow comic book artists and other fun people. Met some fans, always a pleasure. I had postcards printed with the cover for my upcoming book. So I guess it's time to show how it's gonna look here as well…

Pretty nice, huh?!

Now I really have to get started on that super hero-comic, tight deadline…

Zombies and bikinis!

Hola!
Finished another episode, #18. I was gonna do the werewolf-story that I've mentioned earlier. But I convinced my editor to give me eight pages for it, but then I had to wait another issue. So I did a zombie-story first. It takes place at the beach, so lots of bikinis and lots of zombies… and also zombies in bikinis.
It was actually an idea from my mentor, Peter Snejbjerg, that I should do a comic that takes place at the beach, so I'd have to practise drawing anatomy by drawing people in swimwear.
Here is a sample page:

I'm also working on the cover for the Love Hurts-book. Today I'm going to ink the picture and start colouring it. Here's a pic to see how far I've gotten:

NYC was the bomb! Loved that city, hope I can go back soon enough. Bought a lot of horror comics and met some cool comic arts people.
Now I'm in the country side taking it easy. But I have found time this summer to do some comics as well. A really weird Love Hurts-episode, no. 17. It's about a teddy bear that gets lost and stumbles upon adventures…
A sample page, pour toi:

I'm working on the cover for the Love Hurts compilation book (!). YES, IT'S TRUE!!! It'll be out next spring on Kartago, in time for SPX in Stockholm. I'm working on the cover for it right now. It's gonna be awesome!

All this thinking about my comics makes me homesick, maybe I should take the train back home tomorrow and get to work?

Cover story

In a few weeks my Halloween-special, Love Hurts: Anastasia, will be out with the Halloween issue of Nemi. I've shown some pages from it and now I want to show you the cover of it. And not just the cover, but the making of the cover. I'll show you step by step how I drew and coloured it.

First of all I went to Gimle in Copenhagen, where my mentor Peter Snejbjerg's sits. I work really well there and I can get pointers and tips from Peter and the other artists at the studion.

First some idea sketches. I wanted it to show something from the story, but not a give away. I decided on a picture of the main character, Anastasia, floating in water and a cat looking down at her from the seashore.

I tried a lot of different versions but I had a problem getting the cat to be visible enough. Of course Peter came up with the brilliant idea that the cat is to be shown as a reflection in the water. That way I could show the face of both the cat and Anastasia clearly.

Then it was time to find some reference pictures.

I found this picture of Ophelia by John Everett Millais quickly. I think I might have had it unconsciously in mind when I first thought about the cover. It's really cool.

These are some other artists versions of this heartbreaking scene from Shakespear's Hamlet. All great for reference.

Those and a good picture of a cat and I was good to go!

First I did a drawing in original size. To get the composition right.
Then enlarged 150% it and drew it nicely.

I draw with a blue pencil that the scanner doesn't pick up. So when it's inked and I scan it only the black goes into the computer.

I inked it with a sable brush, just as I ink my comics.
Anastasia was going to be upside down on the cover, but when I drew and inked her face I turned the paper upside down. Just to make it a bit easier.

Time to scan it and start colouring. So I went back to Sweden to my own studio to use my computer.

First I separated the parts of the picture that where going to be under the water, above the water or reflected in the water.

Gave every part it's colour.

I drew the highlights in the water in photoshop.

I put it upside down here as well to get a better feel for here face when I did some of the shadows and highlights.

Finally I tweaked the colours a bit. And gave it some light effects for that eerie feeling.

A title on top of that and it's done!

So, that's it! That's how I make a cover, and it turned out quite nicely if I may say so myself. Don't forget to pick up the comic book when it's out in the stores.

And I've written eight new Love Hurts-scripts.

Today I'm gonna meet Manga artist Junko Mizuno. She is the best, check her stuff out. Her comics are are mix of cute and horror. And we all love that, right?

Here is a page from the forthcoming Halloween-special Love Hurts: Anastasia, as promised. Nice, huh?

It will be out for Halloween, of course. I also promised a making-of series here on my website showing the making of the cover for "Love Hurts: Anastasia", and it's coming. As soon as I get home…

Also when I get home me and Fabian Göransson are gonna start making the storyboard for our new book. We've been working on the script for a year, and now it's done. I'm going to draw it and ink it and Fabian will be assisting me. All I can say right now is that it will contain Ninjas and lots of exotic animals. More on that to come...

Konnichiwa!
I'm in Japan for five weeks, gathering inspiration for my comics. After a week of shrines and temples in Kyoto I'm back in Tokyo, where I started my journey. Temples are nice but the neon and plastic of Tokyo is definitely my cup of tea.

I spent my first week with my fellow artists and dear friends from back home, Åsa Ekström and Jonna Björnstjerna. Åsa lives here in Tokyo, drawing Manga and Jonna was here visiting and getting inspired, just like me.

This is us, in the elevator ready to hit the city!
Karaoke bars all night long ;D

Japan is the land of Manga, and it is everywhere. I went to Comiket, the biggest amateur comic book convention in the world. I've never seen so many people at the same place at once. And so many talented artists, with their fanzines filled with all kinds of crazy stuff. Maybe the best thing at Comiket were the Cosplayers though, girls dressed up as your favourite Manga- and video game-characters.

These are just a few of maybe a hundred pictures I took… ;D

I've been strolling around Manga Book stores as well, I can't read it but it's inspiring just to see the stuff. I'm gonna buy some just for the pretty pictures. The only thing I've bought so far are little figurines of Manga-girls who are half girls and half fighter planes or tanks. Add fox ears, big guns and just super cute. I must have them all!
This is a link I found about them…

When I get back home I'm gonna finish Love Hurts No.10, which I started before I left. It takes place in the wild west. But don't be to surprised if you see some samurai, ninja or geishas in my comics in the near future.
